REFLECTION AND APPLICATION

PURPOSE:

The purpose of this assignment is first, to reflect on the meaning (your understanding) of the 6 student Program Learning Objectives (PLOs) for the areas of Foundation (theory), Inquiry, and Practices. Second, to identify the two major learnings from each learning objective and name the classes in which you learned them. Third, to reflect on how you have applied and plan to apply what you learned in your personal and professional lives. See Program Learning Objectives (LOPs) in Syllabus. (Examples will be provided in class)

STRUCTURE OF PAPER:

I. Start with a very brief opening statement on the purpose of this assignment and preview main points.

II. Reflect on the two Program Learning Objectives (LOPs) in the Foundations area:

PLO1. Understanding Communication Theories: Demonstrate an understanding of the major theories that have shaped the field of communication, including historical developments, ethical issues, and current trends.

PLO2. Critiquing Communication Theories: Demonstrate the ability to discuss the strengths and limitations of theoretical perspectives on communication.

Answer the following 3 questions: (1 and 1/2 page)

1. What is your understanding of each learning objective?

2. Describe briefly the two major learnings from each learning objective and name the classes in which you learned them.

3. Describe briefly how you have applied and plan to apply what you learned in your personal and professional lives

III. Reflect on the two Program Learning Objectives (LOPs) in the Inquiry area:

PLO 3: Research Methods: Demonstrate an understanding of methods of communication research and analysis such as rhetorical, critical, interpretive, performative and social scientific approaches and their ethical implications.

PLO 4: Research Application and Critique: Develop and apply analytical skills and ethical practices for understanding, conducting, and evaluating communication research studies.

Answer the following 3 questions: (1 and 1/2 page)

1. What is your understanding of each learning objective?

2. Describe briefly the two major learnings from each learning objective and name the classes in which you learned them

3. Describe briefly how you have applied and plan to apply what you learned in your personal and professional lives

IV. Reflect on the two Program Learning Objectives (LOPs) in the Practice area:

PLO 5: Communication Competence: Demonstrate the ability to communicate competently and in a theoretically informed manner in a variety of contexts.

PLO 6: Social Responsibility: Demonstrate social responsibility, ethical awareness, and community engagement.

Answer the following 3 questions: (1 and 1/2 page)

1. What is your understanding of each learning objective?

2. Describe briefly the two major learnings from each learning objective and name the classes in which you learned them.

3. Describe briefly how you have applied and plan to apply what you learned in your personal and professional lives.

V. Conclusion: A brief paragraph on the meaning of writing this assignment: how you felt and what you learned...
